Groenvlei High upholds its tradition of raising cancer awareness and offering support to those who suffered from cancer. We think of those our current teachers and peers who have contracted cancer but are still fighting or have survived it. And we remember those of our own who have lost the battle against it. This year we are raising funds and lobbying for better care for the children of the CHOC foundation.
CHOC Children Cancer foundation strives to serve and support the children, parents ,families ,and communities through their cancer journey “to keep more than hope alive” said Gadija Israel , the fundraising coordinator of the foundation. Since the foundation was established in1979 , it has been keeping hope alive for almost 4 decades coincidentally , Goenvlei High has been striving to “provide quality education to all learners in a relevant and holistic way for nearly 4 decades as well. Next year both CHOC and our beloved school will be celebrating their 40th anniversary, and will undoubtedly go all out.
As their form of community service , the grade 10 future leaders have decided to support CHOC as September and October are the months of cancer awareness. They were invited to work with two of CHOC’s ambassadors ( Lynette Muthuray , the Regional Manager and Gadija Israel ) at various events that were hosted by the Cancer Foundation.
Groenvlei High will continue to spread cancer awareness amd support as many as it possibly can. We encourage all other schools and organizations to follow in that same path and create light and hope in the lives of those who know only darkness.
