Steps have been taken towards eradicating illegal gun ownership and usage, violence and gangsterism by the winners of the 2018 International Children’s Peace Prize (Matt Deitsch, Jaclyn Corin, David Hoogg and Delaney Tarr).
A ‘Red Carpet’ lunch was hosted at Groenvlei High on Wednesday, 21st November,in honour of this yesr’s Peace Prize winners as well as the chaeli Ambassadors and Ms.Prodehl, without whom the function would not have been possible. Our guests from around the world were hilariously entertained by our Cape Malay Choir, left in awe by our powerful poet, and wowed by our spectacular dance squad. Topping it off, the entire event was hosted by our students!
After an interview with three of the four prize winners, we were left with a sense of motivation and urgency to create a change. Change is a power that the youth has and needs to understand. ‘Carpe diem’ indeed.
When asked about her thoughts after winning the Peace Prize, Jackie Corin beautifully said that it’s not about winning the prize. Although it was won, the violence hasn’t stopped. The journey of eliminating violence continues and it’s important to motivate the youth to grab all the opportunities they can to make a better change in the world.
We were left with the powerful words of Matt Deitsch ; “The global power of the youth and their desire to create a change in the world is what truly matters, and that power is in each and every one of you’
